India Women Retain Asian Games Compound Archery Gold

India’s women’s compound archery team retained its Asian Games title on Wednesday, September 30, defeating China 238-234 in the final at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. The winning total equalled the world record for the event.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi delivered the result that gave India its seventh gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games. The victory also continued India’s strong record in women’s compound team archery after the country won the same event at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

India compound archery gold built on a narrow semifinal

India’s route to the title included a close 234-233 semifinal win over South Korea. The final was more decisive: India finished four points ahead of China and reached 238 points, matching the established world-record mark.

The score is especially notable because a compound team contest leaves little room for error. Three archers shoot across four ends, with two arrows per athlete in each end. A maximum team score is 240, so India dropped only two points across 24 arrows in the gold-medal match.

The Indian trio’s performance was confirmed by multiple reports published after the final. The Indian Express identified Vennam, Pradeep and Taniparthi as the winning team and reported the 238-234 score. The Times of India also reported that India retained the title against China and matched the world record.

A successful title defence

For Vennam, the result adds another major team medal to a career that has helped establish India among the leading nations in compound archery. Pradeep and Taniparthi joined her in a team that combined experience with newer talent while handling two high-pressure knockout matches on the same day.

India had defeated Mongolia 238-223 in the round of 16 and Kazakhstan 233-230 in the quarterfinal before the one-point semifinal against South Korea. Those results showed both scoring strength and the ability to withstand a much tighter contest before the final.

The gold arrived early on Day 12 of the Games and lifted India’s confirmed tally to seven gold medals. Medal tables were still being updated as other events continued, so the overall total and ranking remained subject to change during the day.

Why the world-record mark matters

Matching the world record in a championship final underlines the precision of India’s performance rather than merely the margin of victory. With a possible 240 points available, the team’s 238 represented near-perfect shooting against a strong Chinese side.

The result is also significant for continuity. India entered the competition as defending champion and converted that expectation into another gold, while the archers produced their best score in the match that mattered most.
