Rain Washes Out India-West Indies Decider, Series Drawn

The India West Indies series draw was confirmed after rain forced the fifth and deciding T20 international in Bengaluru to end without a result. The teams therefore finished the five-match series level at 2–2, with neither side able to claim the decider.

The October 17 match was reduced to nine overs per side after a long rain delay. West Indies won the toss and chose to field. India raced to 118/5 in 7.4 overs before another downpour ended play at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

India West Indies series draw after explosive start

Ishan Kishan supplied the fastest early burst, scoring 30 from 10 balls with three fours and two sixes. Naman Dhir then made 24 from six deliveries, while captain Shreyas Iyer contributed 22 as India maintained an aggressive pace despite regular wickets.

The BCCI match centre records the official outcome as “no result” rather than a tie. Because West Indies never began their chase, no winner could be determined and the series remained 2–2.

The Indian Express reported that the initial rain interruption delayed the start before officials shortened the contest. Play stopped again during the eighth over, immediately after Tilak Varma’s dismissal, and conditions did not improve enough for the match to resume.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to India’s playing XI

The abbreviated match still marked Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to India’s T20I playing eleven after nearly four years. He had been added to the squad after Arshdeep Singh suffered a blow to his bowling shoulder during the fourth match.

West Indies’ decision to bowl meant Bhuvneshwar did not get an opportunity to deliver a ball before the washout. His selection nevertheless completed the comeback that had generated substantial interest ahead of the decider. Shivam Dube was also included in India’s revised combination.

Earlier reporting had correctly treated Bhuvneshwar’s playing-XI place as unconfirmed pending the toss. The official team sheet settled that question, although the weather prevented an assessment of his bowling return.

Series ends with shared honours

India and West Indies had each won two of the first four games. West Indies levelled the series in Hyderabad through Shai Hope’s unbeaten century and Keemo Paul’s five-wicket haul, setting up what was expected to be a winner-takes-all finale.

Instead, rain preserved India’s unbeaten run in home T20I series dating from 2019. It also extended West Indies’ wait for a T20I series victory in India. Shai Hope was named Player of the Series after scoring 539 runs, according to the BCCI match record.

India captain Shreyas Iyer said the team’s batting had been a major positive but acknowledged inconsistency and execution problems in the bowling during the second and fourth matches. The result leaves both sides with lessons rather than a decisive series verdict.

Search interest peaked around the washout

Google Trends Trending Now recorded the “India vs West Indies” cluster at more than two million searches in India, up 1,000%. The episode lasted about 12 hours in the available October 18 snapshot. This is a bucketed indication of unusual search activity, not an exact audience total.
