Uzbekistan take control before halftime
Ulugbek Maratov opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Kuvonchbek Abraev doubled the lead six minutes later with a free-kick that struck the inside of the post before going in.
India had survived an earlier scare when an Uzbekistan header was disallowed for obstruction from an offside position. The hosts continued to create chances, including a shot against the crossbar, before converting their pressure.
Two more goals after the break
Shorakhim Shorakhmedov made it 3-0 in the 67th minute after a move down the left. Substitute Nurbek Sersenbaev added the fourth in the 90th minute.
India goalkeeper Suraj Singh Aheibam made several saves, but the Blue Colts struggled to create a route back into the match. Head coach Mahesh Gawali used all five substitutions as India sought greater energy and attacking threat.
Why India are still alive
India beat Syria 1-0 in their opening match, which keeps them second on the head-to-head criterion. Their final group fixture is against Bangladesh on September 6.
AIFF says an India victory, combined with Syria failing to beat Uzbekistan, would leave the Blue Colts second and give them a strong chance of qualifying as one of the seven best runners-up across the eight groups.
