India won two individual squash silver medals at the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday, September 27, after Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh finished runners-up in their respective singles finals in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The India Asian Games squash silvers came against Malaysian opponents. Anahat lost the women’s singles final to Sivasangari Subramaniam, while Abhay was beaten by Ng Eain Yow in the men’s singles title match.
India Asian Games squash silvers confirmed
Anahat, 18, was defeated 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena. She briefly led 3-2 in the opening game, but Sivasangari took control of the rallies and built an 8-3 advantage before closing the game. The Malaysian maintained that momentum through the second game and completed the straight-games victory in the third.
Despite the loss, Anahat’s silver marked an important milestone: she became the first Indian woman to reach an Asian Games squash singles final. Her run ended one step short of the title, but it added a significant individual medal to India’s campaign.
Abhay also lost in straight games, with defending champion Ng winning 11-9, 11-5, 11-5. The opening game was the closest part of the contest. Abhay remained within reach at 8-7 before Ng handled the closing points more effectively.
Ng then established greater control in the second game. Abhay began the third strongly and led 4-2, but the Malaysian recovered, moved ahead and finished the contest without conceding a game.
Malaysia sweeps the singles titles
The results gave Malaysia both squash singles gold medals. They also extended India’s wait for an Asian Games singles title and denied the two Indian finalists the direct Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification opportunity associated with winning the Asian Games competition.
Squash is scheduled to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, adding significance to the singles finals beyond the continental medals.
Akashvani News independently confirmed both Indian silver medals and the men’s final score. The Times of India reported the detailed game scores from both finals and the historical significance of Anahat’s appearance.
India’s squash campaign continues
The two silver medals followed the mixed-doubles bronze won by Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar, taking India’s squash medal count at the Games to three at that stage.
Attention now shifts to the team competitions, which begin after the individual events. India entered those events looking to build on its singles and mixed-doubles results and add further medals to its Aichi-Nagoya campaign.
For Anahat and Abhay, the individual finals produced disappointment after strong tournament runs, but their silver medals remain significant results. Anahat’s achievement is particularly notable because of her age and because no Indian woman had previously contested the Asian Games squash singles final.
