Nexperia and Tata Electronics Partner on India Chip Production

Dutch chipmaker Nexperia and Tata Electronics have announced a partnership to manufacture and package semiconductor products in India. The agreement covers production at Tata Electronics’ planned fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, and assembly and testing at its facility in Jagiroad, Assam.

The Nexperia Tata partnership was announced on September 17, 2026. Reuters reported the terms after statements from the companies, while Financial Express separately included Nexperia among 16 semiconductor partnerships announced by Tata Electronics during Semicon India 2026.

What the Nexperia Tata partnership covers

Under the agreement, the companies plan to manufacture a range of Nexperia power-control chips at the Dholera facility. They will also cooperate on semiconductor assembly and testing in Jagiroad and explore future technology development.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The announcement therefore establishes the planned industrial cooperation but does not provide a contract value, production volume or timetable for commercial output.

Nexperia makes relatively basic but widely used semiconductor components for automotive, consumer-electronics and industrial applications. Such chips may be less visible than advanced processors, but supply disruptions can affect large manufacturing chains.

Dholera and Jagiroad have different roles

Tata Electronics is developing a semiconductor fabrication plant at Dholera and an assembly-and-test operation at Jagiroad. Fabrication involves producing chips on semiconductor wafers, while assembly and testing prepare manufactured dies for use in finished products.

Reuters described the Dholera project as an $11 billion facility. Financial Express reported that Tata Electronics is investing $3 billion in the Jagiroad advanced-packaging operation. These amounts relate to the wider Tata projects, not a disclosed value for the Nexperia agreement.

The separate locations illustrate India’s attempt to build more than one part of the chip supply chain domestically. The partnership does not mean that either facility is already producing all of the products covered by the agreement.

Part of a broader semiconductor push

Tata Electronics announced multiple agreements at Semicon India spanning materials, manufacturing equipment, packaging and technology support. Nexperia is one participant in that wider programme.

The Indian government has promoted domestic semiconductor manufacturing to reduce reliance on imported components and attract more electronics supply-chain investment. For Tata Electronics, adding customers and technology partners is important because a fabrication plant requires sustained production demand as well as specialised operating knowledge.

For Nexperia, the arrangement offers access to planned Indian manufacturing and packaging capacity. Reuters also placed the deal in the context of Nexperia’s continuing corporate dispute with Chinese parent Wingtech. That background is relevant, but the verified announcement itself is a manufacturing and technology partnership with Tata Electronics.

What remains undisclosed

The companies have not published detailed production targets, pricing, ownership changes or a firm start date for chips made under the agreement. Those points should not be inferred from the announcement.

The next measurable milestones will be facility commissioning, product qualification and confirmed commercial shipments. Until those occur, the agreement is best understood as a strategic commitment to use Tata’s developing Indian semiconductor infrastructure.
