FDA Warns MAXMAN Coffee Contains Undeclared Prescription-Drug Ingredients

The US Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to buy or use MAXMAN Coffee after laboratory testing found sildenafil and tadalafil that were not declared on the product label.

Why the hidden ingredients matter

Sildenafil and tadalafil are active ingredients used in prescription medicines for erectile dysfunction. They can interact with nitrates—including medicines sometimes prescribed for chest pain—and cause blood pressure to fall to dangerous levels.

Because the substances were not listed, consumers and clinicians may not know they are being taken. That makes it harder to avoid drug interactions, assess side effects or understand why symptoms have appeared.

Product marketed as a supplement

The FDA said MAXMAN Coffee was promoted for sexual enhancement and could be available through websites or some retail outlets. Products presented as “natural” or as dietary supplements are not necessarily free of pharmacologically active substances.

The September 2 notice forms part of a longer series of FDA alerts involving sexual-enhancement and energy products found to contain undeclared drugs. The agency maintains a public list, but warns that the list covers only products it has identified and is not a complete catalogue of every potentially contaminated item.

What consumers should do

People should stop using the product and seek medical advice if they have concerns or symptoms. Anyone experiencing severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain or another emergency should obtain urgent care.

Adverse events can be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch programme. Consumers should be cautious of products promising rapid sexual-performance effects, especially when the seller provides limited manufacturing information or makes claims resembling prescription-drug benefits.
