UltraTech Launches Ultravolt Wires and Cables Business With ₹1,800 Crore Investment

UltraTech Cement has entered India’s wires and cables market with a new business called Ultravolt, backed by a planned investment of ₹1,800 crore. The Aditya Birla Group announced the launch on September 3, 2026, describing it as the group’s fourth new-business foray in three years.

What the company announced

According to the Aditya Birla Group, Ultravolt is housed within UltraTech Cement and is intended to become a scaled national brand. The company says it wants the business to rank among India’s top two wires players within five years. Reuters independently reported the ₹18 billion investment and the formal entry into the segment.

The launch moves UltraTech further beyond its core cement operations. Its existing building-solutions portfolio includes grey cement, white cement, ready-mix concrete and other construction products. Wires and cables bring the company into another part of the residential, commercial and infrastructure supply chain.

Manufacturing and market position

The group said the new business would be the country’s second-largest wires player by installed capacity. A manufacturing facility has been established at Bharuch in Gujarat, according to company information reported around the launch. The company’s public statement did not provide a five-year revenue forecast, so any assessment of future market share remains a corporate target rather than an achieved result.

India’s wires and cables market is already served by established listed and private companies. Demand is linked to housing, power distribution, factories, data centres and public infrastructure. UltraTech’s distribution network and relationships in the construction sector may help the company enter the category, but the business will still have to establish product acceptance and compete on quality, availability and price.

Why the diversification matters

The move reflects a broader strategy by large building-material groups to sell more products used during construction rather than relying on a single category. For UltraTech, the investment adds a new growth avenue while keeping the business connected to customers it already serves.

The launch also comes as India continues to invest in housing, electrification and infrastructure. Those trends can support demand, but input costs, copper prices, competition and execution at the new facility will influence the outcome. The ₹1,800 crore figure describes the planned investment; it should not be read as current sales or profit.

What happens next

Investors and customers will now watch how quickly Ultravolt expands distribution, secures product certifications and builds a recognizable retail presence. The five-year top-two ambition gives the company a measurable goal, while commercial performance will determine whether the diversification strengthens UltraTech’s wider building-solutions strategy.
