Gujarat Rain Alert: IMD Warns of Extremely Heavy Falls

A Gujarat rain alert issued on September 14, 2026 warns of heavy to very heavy rain, with isolated extremely heavy falls likely in Surendranagar, Rajkot and Morbi, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The warning appears in IMD Ahmedabad’s September 14 press release and is also reported by The Indian Express. Forecast language describes what is likely, not what every location will necessarily receive.

Gujarat rain alert identifies three highest-risk districts

IMD’s Day 1 warning places Surendranagar, Rajkot and Morbi in the group where extremely heavy falls are possible at isolated places. The forecast does not mean that the entire area of each district will record the same rainfall.

Very heavy rain is also likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Anand and Bharuch. IMD lists several districts in Saurashtra and Kutch under the same very-heavy-rain warning.

Heavy rain is forecast at isolated places in other parts of the Gujarat region, including Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari and Valsad. Thunderstorms, lightning and squally conditions are additional hazards in parts of the state.

Observed rain and forecasts are different

The Indian Express reported that 33 of Gujarat’s 34 districts recorded rain during the preceding 24 hours, with a statewide average of 21.84 millimetres. It said the state had received 729 millimetres during the monsoon by 6 a.m. on Monday.

Those are reported observations. They should not be confused with the forecast of very heavy or extremely heavy falls during the warning period.

Check district warnings before travel

Weather warnings can change as rainfall systems move. Residents should check the latest district bulletin, nowcast and instructions from local authorities before travelling through affected areas.

People should avoid flooded roads and underpasses and should not attempt to cross fast-moving water. During lightning, moving indoors and staying away from exposed locations reduces risk.

This report does not predict flooding at a specific property or promise that rain will occur at a particular time. Its purpose is to accurately relay the September 14 IMD warning and distinguish the highest forecast category from the wider areas under heavy-rain alerts.
