Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, will be observed on Monday, September 14, 2026. The festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated with the installation of idols in homes and public pandals across India.
Tithi and Muhurat
The Chaturthi Tithi begins at approximately 7:06 am on September 14 and ends at 7:44 am on September 15. The main puja is performed during the Madhyahna period. In New Delhi, the auspicious muhurat is from 11:02 am to 1:31 pm. Timings vary slightly by city.
Festival Duration and Visarjan
The celebrations traditionally last up to 10 days and conclude with Ganesh Visarjan (Anant Chaturdashi). Devotees perform rituals seeking wisdom, prosperity and the removal of obstacles. Public processions and immersions form a major part of the festivities in states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
Local authorities in various cities have issued guidelines for eco-friendly idols and immersion arrangements.
